Last night I had the privilege of attending the Food Allergy Ball at the Waldorf Astoria, courtesy of my lovely friends Elizabeth Estroff and Dr. CiarĂ¡n Grant. What a night we had!
Upon entry, Elizabeth introduced me to Emeril Lagasse. She knows him well. I explain to him that he was my excuse for 'abandoning' my 3 & 6 year olds to go to the event - "but girls, guess what? I might get to meet 'BAM' tonight" - so he got a laugh out of that, especially since he had also abandoned his kids for the night.
One 'Emeril's Hurricane Punch' later we start digging into the deep fried Mac & Cheese balls...maybe not the best idea, but delish all the same.
Dinner was out of this world....
Smoked Salmon Cheesecake with Pickled Beet Salad and Ravigote Sauce. Emeril's Rosemary Biscuits & Corn Bread
Fried Chicken & Buttermilk Waffles with Black Pepper Maple Syrup, Whipped Vanilla Butter & Pickled Carrots & Cabbage
Trio of Desserts: Sour Cream Toffee Fudge Cake. Traditional New Orleans-Style Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce. Coconut & Key Lime Pudding Cakes with Guava Coulis
Conor Kennedy spoke on behalf of his father, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr, who was stuck in Virginia at the Rally to save Coal River Mountain. He was adorable and very eloquent! There is no doubt he will be a Kennedy Heartthrob in a few short years..
After renowned chefs Daniel Boulud, Drew Nieporent, Sirio Maccioni, and Julian Niccolini presented the FAI Lifetime Achievement Award to Emeril Lagasse, the dancing began!
The Crescent City Swingers of New Orleans took to the stage, and in no time had the audience marching around the room to ‘When The Saints Go Marching In.’ No one at my table would dance, so I grabbed a girl I saw sitting alone and dancing in her seat!
We ended the night at the bar in the Waldorf with the Emeril team.. such a great night of food, entertainment and friends.
